Real Milk Paint Crackle is a non-toxic, natural, biodegradable gelatin-based topper to paint that enables you to create faux paint finishes that mimic antique wood finish looks. Use it to create “alligator skin” or hairline crack decorations. The gelatin base functions as a collagen adhesive on wood furniture, cardboard, leather and paper. The basic concept is that a faster drying finish on top of a slower drying, more flexible finish will result in the crackle look.

To use, choose and apply the milk paint you want to show through the cracks. How many coats of milk paint and Natural Crackle depends upon the look you’re trying to achieve.

For thin cracks, use one coat of Natural Crackle over the milk paint. (Thinning Natural Crackle will result in even smaller cracks.) For larger cracks, apply two coats of Natural Crackle over the milk paint, allowing each coat to dry, then apply two coats of milk paint over the Natural Crackle. (The first coat of milk paint will still be wet but dry enough to accept a second coat.) Apply with either a brush or a roller. Natural Crackle dries to a satin sheen. Drying time is fast - 30 minutes to 2 hours.

Seal your work with an oil-based topcoat such as tung oil, varnish, Danish oil, lacquer or one of Real Milk Paint’s Finishing Creams. Do not use a waterborne finish. Natural Crackle will adhere to a wide range of surfaces - wood, metal, glass, drywall, varnish, and previously painted surfaces.
