Festool Discontinued Tools

Festool discontinues tools from time to time - ideally because of improvements to the tool, but also because of sales, difficulty in sourcing materials or parts for the tools and for reasons that are beyond our knowledge (or imagination). We loved many of the tools on this list and still have demand for them!

Broadly speaking, there are several different categories of discontinuation:

  • The tool itself isn’t actually discontinued, but is changed in a minor way that results in the retirement of a product number. When Festool started changing the Systainers that all their tools come in, they changed the product number of the tools or accessories because the Systainers had changed. What’s inside the Systainers stayed exactly the same, but the old product numbers were marked as “discontinued.”
  • The tool has been improved or modified, so the old version was discontinued. The changes can be very significant or almost invisible. Sometimes the old accessories will fit the newly modified tool (for example when the Kapex was changed several years ago) and sometimes they won’t (for example, the new TS55 and TSC 55 take different blades than the ones sold before 2021/2022).
  • The tool is flat out discontinued with no successor tool to replace it. This is the sad category. We miss you, corded CT Sys, LS 130, Sys Vac, RAS sander and other much loved tools.

Question: Can you still buy accessories, “consumables” such as blades and sandpaper, etc. for your discontinued tools?

Yes! Those items are not discontinued.

Question: What about repairs?

Festool’s Service Department maintains parts for these tools for many, many years. If you have a truly ancient tool, you may want to confer with Festool first. It is not at all unusual for customers to submit their CT 22s and CT 33s for repair, and these vacs were discontinued over a decade ago.

Question: Where can I buy a discontinued tool?

Sometimes dealers still have stock in a discontinued tool. If so, all the usual return policies and warranties will be in effect. If you cannot buy the tool from a dealer, buying second-hand from another Festool customer does not offer the standard protections.
