I bought the A2 blade for my Stanley no. 5 and it is now an entirely different plan. I find myself grabbing it for over my other planes. A2 steel is the way to go if you want to reducie sharpening.
I own this product.

This is my first Hock iron (O1 steel for an old Stanley 4 1/2) and I am very impressed. I got the back flat and mirror polished in under 10 minutes. The 30 degree bevel must be slightly hollow because I got a razor edge using an 8000 stone freehand in about one minute. I had to shorten the cap iron screw (on the grinder) because it protruded enough to interfere with the lever cap, but that was easy. Most important, the hefty Hock iron and cap iron make this old Stanley perform like a $300+ plane.
I own this product.

The edge retention on the A2 irons is amazing. I have one in a Stanley #4 that I use as a scrub plane and once it’s sharp it stays sharp for hours of use.
I own this product.
