I saw this last week on YouTube and I thought I might mention it to woodworkers. The filmmaker and star, Sillysparrowness didn't just build a TARDIS (which if you don't know what it is it stands for "Time and relative dimension in space" as seen for the past 50 years on Dr. Who.), she also made a real movie about it. It's interesting, engaging, funny, and shows what someone with very few tools and a lot of determination can build. The sixteen minute video is at least as entertaining as anything I have found on TV lately (although the scene with the table saw scares the pants off of me).
When I think of "woodworking" as a hobby I think of building classic furniture pieces. I am sure most of you think the same way. But historically most woodworking has been of the DIY character (Do It Yourself). Repairing stuff around the house, mounting a shelf, and other very practical stuff that requires very few tools and just a willing to make things. For some people painting a door and getting the door to close right is all they want out of woodworking and that's fine. For other people doing a simple project is the beginning of a long relationship with making stuff and maybe even making fine furniture. So we need to encourage all these people.
So enjoy the video, our TARDIS builder runs into the exact same problems you and I run into when we make stuff and she has a delightful cheery spin on it all.

You know that you are getting old when you see such a cute engaging creative young women and you wish that she was your daughter
I'm so delighted you have chosen to draw attention to the delightful world of this young woman. She is thoughtful, eloquent, creative, practical, philosophical and (usually) unflappable. What's more, she is sharing her quirky window on the world in a language that is not her native tongue! (Astrid is German.) I chanced upon her TARDIS video last week after being given spousal approval to build a TARDIS of my own. I scoured the web for TARDIS creating ideas and found Astrid's (Sillysparrowness) creation. Since then I have become quite a fan of her unique take on the world! A sparrow she may be in the Piaf sense but her sillyness is replete with wisdom. Oh, and I've been a fan of Dr. Who since the first episode in 1963.

Joel, thank you as that was one of the most enjoyable videos that I have seen in a very long time. :o) I must now return to finishing my bench but first I must take off my own bag of shame. :o)

I have heard of kickback, but maybe Sillysparrowness never did. If the "you" in your sentence is directed at me (who mentioned the table saw) I assure you that I am not the person in the video.
