Mortise/handle not installed straight
By: Will Arthur (Nov, 2024)
The mortise in the head is at about a 10 degree angle, so the flat side of the handle is not parallel to the side of the mallet head. I can still hit stuff with it, but it's not comfortable to use. Would not recommend.

Better than expected
By: Michael O’Donnell (Nov, 2017)
I came to Tools for working wood to purchase a Ray Iles Mortise chisel, and purchased this mallet as well, since I wanted to try a different one and this was cheaper than amazon or my local box store.
Some things are bigger in real life than on the internet and thus mallet is an example. It seemed big when I opened the box, but after a quick sand of the grip to take off some of the protective finish, this mallet felt much better than expected. I’m completely satisfied with it. Mine weighs 18 oz. all in.
Honestly, I thought tools for working wood was a boutique tool dealer, and while I think boutique tools are awesome and inspirational to use, I use my tools professionally and can’t justify art for art’s sake. This mallet indicates to me that tools for working wood is in the business of selling the best tools they can find, regardless of whether they are boutique or humble. Also they shipped right away.

much better than a round mallet
By: JohnG (Dec, 2015)
I used a round headed mallet for years. I finally got tired of they way it would glance off of the chisel head if I didn't hit it right. This one has saved my knuckles from abuse. A bonus is that it won't roll off the workbench! I use the round mallet for ice crushing.
