The tool rest is a metal bar that supports the lathe tool when a wood lathe is in use. The tool rest is held solidly in the tool holder or banjo by clamping on the shaft.

Typical American wood lathes use a shaft of either 5/8" for lighter duty lathes, or 1" for standard regular duty lathes. The Gramercy Tools Treadle lathe tool holder supports a 1" shaft. The lathe is shipped with a 9" long tool rest with a 1" shaft. For longer spindle work, some turners prefer a longer tool rest, so we also stock a 12" tool rest here as an accessory, along with replacement 7" tool rests.
