DMT Diamond Cones are a quick way touch up or sharpen the edges of carving tools, turning tools, router bits, or serrated and re-curved knives. We love the fact that diamond abrasive can be used dry, or with only a splash of water. No mess - means less to clean up so you can concentrate on the fun part of having sharp tools.
The convex surface of each nickel plated steel cone is coated with a generous helping of 25 micron diamond to remove material quickly. The cones make quick work of even the toughest materials, like HSS, Carbide and exotic alloys. The small cone even works on the scalloped serrations found on bread and tactical knives.
The medium and large cones are semi circular. They can be used hand-held or on a bench top with a Non-Skid Mat. The Small cone is fully round, and is permanently attached to a rectangular plastic handle. The set of all 3 sizes comes in a French-fit wooden box with a snap-shut lid. Cones are also available individually.
All cones are fine grit - 25 Micron/600 mesh. That's sharp enough for router bits, or turning tools, but for carving tools, follow with a strop and some honing compound or diamond paste.
3 sizes cover a wide range of tools:
Small 4" long by 1/8" to 3/8" Diameter - O'all (with handle) is 8 1/8"
Medium 6" long by 3/8" to 3/4" Diameter
Large is 8" long by 3/4" to 1 1/4" Diameter
DMT diamond abrasives are durable, even under heavy use. At first the cones will feel extra aggressive; They will smooth out after a few sharpenings without impacting performance.
Clean cones with dish soap and water, or with a polymer-eraser. Store Dry - a wipe with a towel is enough. Although we prefer water - lubricating with oil is fine too - with the proviso that the cones are't stored in kerosene.
Medium and Large cones are abrasive on the EXTERIOR, convex side of the cone only.
