The Kostka knife is a compact, elegant and intriguingly designed knife made by Mikov, a Czech knifemaking company that dates back to 1794. The name “kostka” means “cube” in Czech, and refers to the elongated cube shape that the knife has when closed. The Kostka has a double-flipping, 180-degree handle mechanism that acts similar to a butterfly knife, and is opened by rotating its two handle halves 180 degrees, a motion that conceals or reveals the blade. The knife’s design when open is said to be based upon the appearance of a surgical scalpel, which can be appreciated in its sharp edge and mirror finish.

Aside from this stylish, conversation-starting design, the knife is intended for everyday use, with a sharp edge, no blade play and good ergonomics. The intriguing boxy shape makes it ideal for pockets because the closed knife offers no exposed tang or anything to catch on the fabric. The blade itself is about 2.4 inches long. Measures about 5.6 inches when open and 3 inches when closed with a blade that is 2.4 inches long and .08 inches thick. Made of 440A stainless steel hardened to 55-57 HRc. Made in the Czech Republic.
