We are delighted to introduce the Gramercy Tools Spoonmaker’s Riffler Rasp, the first double-ended riffler rasp designed specifically for making spoons, pipes, kuksas, bowls and other small rounded works.

Double-ended riffler rasps have a head on each end so that you can flip them around one hand when you work. These heads are intended to be complementary - but traditionally they have been designed for pattern making. These rifflers are different. One end is flat on one side and half round on the other like a short regular rasp. This shape is perfect for the outside and convex surfaces of a spoon. The other side is a spiral for concave surfaces and the spoon cavity itself.

We say “the spoon” because this unique spiral shape was designed specifically for spoonmakers, but you can make great use on a pipe, bowl or other concave work. On the spiral end you get a tighter and tighter radius as you go towards the end of the rasp. Rasps cut on the push stroke, so pay attention to where you are in the spiral so you can work the rasp in the most effective direction.

We have two versions available: a coarse version with about 18tpi and a fine version at 25 TPI. The coarse version is intended for shaping and sculpting and the fine version is for finishing and careful material removal. Like all Gramercy Tools rasps, these rasps are hand cut for the smoothest possible result.
