The 6" diameter random orbital sander is the workhorse sander of just about any workshop.
Festool offers two versions: a short 3mm stroke (1/8"), the more popular of the two, is made for fine sanding and leaves an excellent sanded surface; and the 5mm stroke version (3/16"), which is the choice for more aggressive sanding. It has great application in intermediate varnish sanding.
You can use these sanders with one hand, but more typically it's a two handed grip. They have a lot of great features that you have come to expect from Festool. Were particularly impressed by its effective sanding brake, which prevents the sander from continuing to move and scratching the finish when you turn it off. The sander is variable speed with a really comfortable ergonomic grip that's balanced for low vibration. The other customary Festool design innovations include a plug-it cord that enables you to use a single cord that is easily detached and plugged in from one Festool tool to another; additional sanding pads for harder and softer backings that can be quickly changed (with no tools!) using the FastFix chuck system.
The sanding disks all use standard hook and loop attachments. The secret to the near total dust extraction for which Festool is known is a center "Jetstream" intake hole. The air circulation also keeps the sanding disk cool, and with no dust buildup, the sander will cut faster, cooler, cleaner, and disks will last longer.
The set includes the sander, the Multi-Jetstream 2 sanding pad, the filter cartridge, Plug-It cord and the WAF screwdriver. Packed in a Systainer SYS3 M 187. The 3 mm Stroke sander comes with the Ultra Soft sanding pad (202459) and the 5 mm Stroke sander comes with the Soft sanding pad (202458).
