Step-By-Step Instructions for Mastering Woodturning Fundamentals
by James Rodgers

The fastest way to learn how to turn, or for that matter learn most things, is to take a good class. Failing that a well written set of instructions can do wonders. "A Lesson Plan for Wood Turning" is just that. A coherent, well thought out course in beginning wood turning. The author, James Rodgers has been teaching for years and the the systematic approach he uses shows experience. He doesn't do a brain dump of everything he knows. The book is laid out like a class. Each chapter contains what you need to know as a beginner, and then the next chapters build on what you know. Many projects are included in the book - each designed to turn what you read into a practical experience. He even gives a tool and materials list for each project which I find so useful.

This isn't an "Ultimate" turning book - it's far more useful - it teaches what you need to know, in the right order, without out extraneous confusing asides, so at the end of the book you will be able to do basic spindle, faceplate, and bowl turning. Instructions are laid out clearly with bullets and headlines so you don't get confused.
