The DuoSharp Plus adds versatility to the classic polka-dot DuoSharp bench stone with the addition of a 3/4" wide strip of uninterrupted diamond for sharpening narrow, curved or pointy tools. If you usually sharpen chisels and plane irons, but occasionally need to touch up a gouge or sharpen the cutter on your marking gauge, the DuoSharp Plus has you covered.
The dot-surface on the interrupted portion of the stone is engineered to catch swarf in the dots which are slightly lower than the diamond surface of the stone. That keeps the diamond abrasive clear for faster sharpening. The DuoSharp Plus has all the benefits of a regular DuoSharp including the compact resin body, two sided construction, and DuoBase compatibility, but adds the option to sharpening narrower tools - without switching stones.
Like all DMT diamond stones, you don't need water or oil when sharpening on the DuoSharp Plus - you can just start sharpening. The diamond abrasive works on any steel out there - including carbide. If you're looking for the one-stop shop of sharpeners, the versatility, compact size, and mess free sharpening make the DuoSharp Plus a great choice.
The DuoSharp Plus is available with the adjustable DuoBase, or a non-skid mat. The O'all dimensions of the diamond surface are 8" by 2 5/8" with a 3/4" by 2 5/8" section of un-interrupted surface.
All DMT products are designed for a long service life. Stones can be cleaned with a polymer pencil eraser - or washed with dish soap. Store stones dry, (a simple wipe with a towel is fine) and leaf between stones with towel, cloth, paper, or plastic storage sleeves to prevent abrasive sides from rubbing.
DMT DuoSharp Plus diamond bench stones are Made in the USA
DMT offers both interrupted and solid surface diamond sharpening products. Both have their advantages for different users but the choice is largely about personal preference and what type of tools you'll be sharpening on your DMT stones. All DMT stones can be used dry or with water, and are made in the USA to the same high standards.
Duosharp Stones are the classic patented DMT Polka-Dot Sharpening stones. Stones are two sided, and have an interrupted steel surface on both sides. The recessed dots keep abraded metal dust off the abrasive surface of the diamonds, for very fast sharpening. The dots will catch tools much smaller than 1/4" or anything with a curved surface like a gouge - but their compact construction, light weight, and two-grit configuration make them an excellent choice for many users.
DiaSharp stones have a solid un-interrupted diamond surface on one side of a solid steel backing. They can sharpen pointy and narrow tools, as well as wide irons and chisels. Solid steel construction makes these the heaviest DMT stones, but also the flattest. The extra heft keeps them firmly in place on a non-stick mat, but doesn't travel well - with the exception of the DiaSharp Credit Card sharpeners which fit in a wallet.
DuoSharp Plus stones add a 3/4" wide uninterrupted surface to the ends of what would otherwise be a classic 8" DuoSharp bench stone. The uninterrupted surface is for sharpening pointy, or narrow tools. Like the regular DuoSharp, these stones are light weight, and travel well. If you regularly sharpen chisels, knives and plane irons, but only occasionally need to sharpen tools narrower than 1/4" the DuoSharp is good option.
