Translucent Arkansas stones are among the most desired sharpening stones in the world. These Arkansas stones come from a small, independent mine in Arkansas. They are the same ultrafine grit as our regular Norton Arkansas stones. While having a large wide stone is wonderful, especially if you sharpen using a jig, the difficulty in cutting flawless Arkansas stones that big has made it cost prohibitive. These stones all have slight flaws on one side that prevent them from being graded as perfect. Norton sells this grade of Arkansas stone (but not this size) glued down in a box so that you don't see the flaw. Our stones aren't glued down and there is actually no reason why you can't use both sides. The flaws have been in the stones for millions of years and bother no one. But because of the flaw, we can offer a wide stone at a considerable savings.

The stones come in a very nice wooden box that includes a rubber insert to protect the stone in transit and two magnetic catches to keep the case closed. The stone should be supported flat on a work surface when used.

For detailed instructions on how to sharpen and hone, please see “A Guide to Honing and Sharpening” in The Explainer section of our website.

Approx. 8" long x 3" wide x 1/2" thick, packed in a hinged wooden box. Made in USA. Quantities are extremely limited.

Translucent Arkansas Stone 8" x 3" x 1/2"
By: Joe L Meadows (Jul, 2023)
I ordered this stone after attending a Hand Skills class at Marc Adams School of Woodworking. The instructor Frank Strazza used one of these stones in the final steps of sharpening and I had to have one! Well, I received the stone and I have to say that it is AWESOME! Thanks for helping me up my game on sharpening! This is a quality stone at a VERY competitive price. Thank you to Joe for personally selecting one for me prior to shipment! Peace, Joe Meadows
