Special Back Bent Tool Block Cutters by Ashley Iles

These special back bent tools are made by Ashley Iles of England. Their major application is block cutting where the back-bent geometry allows you to have the tool held very low to the work. This in turn allows you to support your hand against the work and get a lot of control. The back-bent allows you to easily control the depth of cut for a clean entry and exit on the block. While we offer a fairly good range of regular "V" tools in back-bent geometry the tools are available in response to specific requests. The back-bent gouges are of course easier to sharpen than a V tool and will leave an curved entrance and exit on the block.

The 120 degree back-bent tool is really something special. The very wide angle allows you to make a tiny "V" entry into to block, quickly widen the cut and then have a clean "V" exit, all with one sweep of the tool,
