The Festool TS75 circular saw is the largest of the cicular saws in Festool's line. By itself, the 75 saw cuts to almost a 3" (70mm) depth, and unlike any other portable saw we know about, it has a built-in riving knife that descends with the blade as the cut is made. The riving knife offers some safety protection. It keeps the freshly sawn kerf from closing up, which in turn keeps the wood from pinching the blade and burning. The knife is spring-loaded, so it doesn't get into the way of plunge cuts. The saw also has a slip clutch to minimize kickback if the saw blade binds. The rest of the saw's features are just as cleverly thought out: the depth adjustment is positive and easy to set, the angle adjustment is solid, and designed to cut into the same cut as the vertical cut so that all the measurements are consistent. Most important, the Festool saw is a true plunge cutter, You put the saw on the wood, turn it on and plunge to depth, easily and safely, without any tricky balancing act. Triple motor bearing improve the running smoothness and extend the life of the saw. Of course the saw, like all Festool saws, connects directly to their dust collection system and as a result you get nearly dust free operation.
The saw works ideally with a 75" guide rail, longer rails, shorter rails, shorter rails connected together. The saw easily adjusts on the guide rail for zero play, so between the rail and the riving blade you get glass smooth cuts. The rail also has an expendable splinter guard, which, coupled with another expendable splinter guard on the saw, means you can cut remarkably smooth cuts with little or no tear-out on the top surface of the cut.
If you only want to own one portable circular saw this is the one to get. It's not only great on panels, but it also has the power to saw just about any material at capacity thickness (with the right blade). For cabinetmakers only doing sheet goods, the 55 might be a better choice, but a lot of people like the extra power for fast smooth cuts and more oomph on thicker stock.
A full range of accessories and blades for all applications are also available. In addition to the guide rail, the saw comes with a Systainer storage box and a really nice 36 tooth carbide blade for general work.
