Festool Domino XL DF 700 Joiner

Ever since Festool’s Domino 500 was introduced a few years ago, it has taken over the market for workshop joinery and revolutionized furniture construction. The secret? The strength of a floating tenon married to a machine that had the ease of use and portability of a biscuit joiner. The Domino XL carries the revolution forward with longer, larger, stronger dominos for any high stress situation. It is an amazingly simple, fast and accurate way to cut a floating tenon that previously only could be cut with a large stationary tool.

No job is too big for the Domino XL. The Domino XL complements the capabilities of the original Domino DF 500, with a maximum tenon size of about five and a half inches in length (140 mm). With an expanded range of thicker, longer tenons, you will quickly and precisely join massive slabs, doors and gates, or construct the most durable of tables and beds.

With the Domino XL, you've got a system light enough and nimble enough for use anywhere in the shop or the jobsite. When the workpiece is too large to come to the machine, this makes all the difference.

You can register your work with an intuitive indexing system. Two sets of three pins on each side of the Domino XL fence can be used for quick alignment against the edge of your material or from an adjacent mortise. The pins are spring loaded and can be placed in a stowed position when not being used. The optional cross top extends the maximum distance for pin indexing.

The XL can make mortises of 8, 10, 12, and 14mm thickness. All of these mortises can be deeper than the sizes available on the Domino 500. When making a mortise you choose between two mortise widths. Select an exact, tight fit to the tenon for precise alignment. Or select a loose fit to the tenon to allow slight lateral movement for alignment, making assembly easier when there are a lot of tenons.

Unlike dowels, the domino tenons' shape prevents rotation and by cutting a real mortise you won't have the same alignment and slippage issues as biscuits. The mortising action is fast and produces precision results.

A step block provides quick settings to common fence heights. There are detents at common angles for mortising miters. Center marks on all sides of the fence allow easy alignment to your scribe lines. You can quickly set the mortise plunge depth to between 15 and 70 mm (19/32" to 2-3/4") to match the size tenon being used.
