These marking knives by Hock are Western interpretations of a Japanese shirabiki masakichi marking knife. The knife has two opposing knife edges, so you can accurately scribe either left or right handed in both directions. Only one side of the blade is ground, the other is flat, so that you can scribe flush against your guide. Two sizes are available, the wider size being more traditional and a narrower size that many will find easier to handle.
Customer Reviews:
Hock, narrow layout knife
By: Ryan Domigan (May, 2013)
Pros: Bought the narrow knife to get into tight spaces, and ended up using it for everything. After sharpening, it makes a much more visible mark than the cheap knife I had been using. Cons: Tends to fall out of pencil pockets (I haven't wrapped the handle).
I own this product.
