This instructional book features a comprehensive overview, very clear directions, and full-color photos that demystify woodturning. The book, subtitled, "Everything You Need to Know Plus 8 Projects to Get You Started," offers overviews on the anatomy of a lathe; safety tips; descriptions of essential turning tools; sharpening techniques; food safe finishes; and relevant information about choosing and sourcing wood for your turning projects.

The author, Luke Voytas, uses his background as turner, sculptor and cabinetmaker to make woodturning accessible to beginning woodworkers and engaging to intermediate turners. We've included a photo of one of his bowls (taken from his website) so you can see his credentials.

The turning projects include the following: Wooden Mallet, Salt and Pepper Shakers, Keepsake Box, Honey Dipper, Rolling Pin, Green Wood Bowl, No-Sand Wooden Top and Custom Handles. Not only do these projects teach useful skills, but most of them make wonderful gifts as well.
