by Edgar Tafel

Edgar Tafel was part of a group of Talesin fellows, apprentices who lived in Spring Green, Wisconsin under the tutelage of Frank Lloyd Wright. Ultimately Tafel, a native New Yorker to whom Wisconsin seems like a foreign land, lived and worked with Wright for nine years (1932 -1941), enabling him to provide an intimate look at a visionary artist who made a singular contribution to American architecture.

Tafel offers his close range perspective of Wright at work designing Fallingwater, the Johnson Wax building and Wingspread and declaiming his philosophies of architecture. Wright’s force of personality alternatively terrifies and inspires his protogees, while his passion for artistic truth and work ethic make a lasting impression.
