Tool Belt Buckles 4When you collect stuff, you collect stuff. You can pretend that you only collect widgets made between 1852 through 1857 by a guy named Joey but in fact this sort of specialization is mostly a rationalization for when, on the spur of the moment, you bought a box of widgets made between 1852 - 1857 by a guy named Joey and now you just found another one. That being said I collect tools, and books, and other crap. And tool belt buckles if you agree that three of anything form a collection.

I fell into tool belt collecting accidentally when I bought my first belt buckle at the company store when I worked at Black & Decker. Naturally when I saw the other two belt buckles at flea markets I felt that collecting bug and there you are. However just like those tool people who tell you that they aren't a collector, that they "use" the tools, I'm not really a belt buckle collector, I'm a user, I wore the B&D buckle for years until the belt broke. I'll get a replacement one day I am sure.

(And by the way - the casting job on these buckles is really excellent and I love the detailing)

Why not get Ron to make you a belt buckle in the shape of, say, a block plane? With "Hock Tools" emblazoned on it? Just a (coffee deprived) thought.

But really, I do use my collected and restored tools. Well, okay, I try using them before I go back to my power tools to correct all the mistakes I made clumsily using my hand tools. Been doing this for fifty-plus years. Some day I'll get it right.

I agree with you in general. A collection is an ongoing thing, but just as two points define a line, two items gathered could become a collection.
Taken one step further, I have a collection of Harley Davidson buckles, from when I was a dealer. They are all made by Josten, the class ring folks, it is a collection of one. And yes, I wear it every day.

It would be interesting to start a collection of things donated to the collection; imagine what you might get?
