| | 03/17/2011 | Seriously we have a job opening here at Tools for Working Wood. We are looking for a sales person who can write or maybe a writer who can sell. Here's the deal. We need someone who can write intelligently about woodworking. I don't mind if you are fairly new at this, we hire for smarts, curiosity, and a willingness to explore. I am planning to put this job out on craigslist but I figure before I do that I would post it on my blog and see if anyone who knows about us already is interested.
You need to be able to write well. You will be expected to be able to write product descriptions, and maintain a construction blog. You will also have to be able to advise customers and help them with their orders. Obviously the longer you work here the more we expect you to know, but the way you will learn is a combination of book study and actually getting your hands dirty in the shop.
You have to be able to come to work in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, although in spite of the fact we are retailers and we have a small showroom, except for the occasional trade show, we don't work weekends.
We might entertain a part-timer but right now I am thinking a full timer is what we need. If you are interested send a resume, salary requirements, and a cover letter telling me about the last thing you made, built, or fixed. Email me at joel@toolsforworkingwood.com.

Unfortunately, I am, in New Jersey (nothing wrong with Jersey - but too far for an everyday commute)! I'd make my Aunt and cousins happy though...
If you ever need a freelancer I'm your guy!
In all seriousness, I wish you the best of luck filling the position. I'm sure you'll find somebody qualified. In my experience, a lot of woodworkers like to write about what they do.
