Do You Want My Job?

03/17/2011

Do You Want My Job? 4Seriously we have a job opening here at Tools for Working Wood. We are looking for a sales person who can write or maybe a writer who can sell. Here's the deal. We need someone who can write intelligently about woodworking. I don't mind if you are fairly new at this, we hire for smarts, curiosity, and a willingness to explore. I am planning to put this job out on craigslist but I figure before I do that I would post it on my blog and see if anyone who knows about us already is interested.

You need to be able to write well. You will be expected to be able to write product descriptions, and maintain a construction blog. You will also have to be able to advise customers and help them with their orders. Obviously the longer you work here the more we expect you to know, but the way you will learn is a combination of book study and actually getting your hands dirty in the shop.

You have to be able to come to work in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, although in spite of the fact we are retailers and we have a small showroom, except for the occasional trade show, we don't work weekends.

We might entertain a part-timer but right now I am thinking a full timer is what we need. If you are interested send a resume, salary requirements, and a cover letter telling me about the last thing you made, built, or fixed. Email me at joel@toolsforworkingwood.com.

Dream job! Too bad I live 1000 miles away... Good luck on the employee search.

Great place to start your search. In another life..

Dream job indeed! I'd give up my architecture job and hussle on over if it wasn't in Brooklyn(750 miles for me). But maybe if it comes with green beer....
Oooh, I would love this job if I was still full-time in Brooklyn. I'm only here every other week now. If you ever need a Boston-to-Brooklyn sales monkey. I'm your monkey!
Joel: I'm too far away to make the commute but I've got to say the picture of you in your office made my day! I ran around my office this morning all pissed off because I couldn't find anything I looked for! I have committed myself to getting it picked up and organized this weekend. Seeing your office made me feel a bit more normal.

Thanks for the afirmation that I'm OK.

Great Job...Great Store!
Unfortunately, I am, in New Jersey (nothing wrong with Jersey - but too far for an everyday commute)! I'd make my Aunt and cousins happy though...

If you ever need a freelancer I'm your guy!
Sounds like a great job for me. Once I retire from teaching in another 40 years or so, I'll give you a call.

In all seriousness, I wish you the best of luck filling the position. I'm sure you'll find somebody qualified. In my experience, a lot of woodworkers like to write about what they do.

A woodworker that likes to write? Darn. I'm a writer that's worked in wood all my life. But being in Canada poses a problem. I'm sure you're going to find lots of takers. If you expand into my market, let me know. Gord

Dream job indeed... let me know when you expand your offices to include a Yachats, Oregon location.
