10/13/2009 (but my blog entry is a little late to the party) |
Stephen Shepherd has been talking up hide glue for years and has been threatening to publish this book for almost as many years as I have known him. Well - it's finally out. We have had the book for a few weeks but I have just been too busy to write about it.
There already have been some nice reviews of the book here: Toolemera Blog
and here: Wood'n Bits Workshop
and here: Norse Woodsmith Blog
and here: Woodworking Magazine Blog
there are of course a bunch of other reviews all over the web but the general gist of all the reviews is that here is a book on the oldest and one of the best adhesives around and wow is hide glue underrated and wow I didn't know that about hide glue before.
The author Stephen Shepherd covers the historical origins of hide glue but I think what's most important about the book is that it's an instruction manual in using the glue both in a regular glue two boards together sense and in a special case - how to glue metal kind of way.
So I'm a little late to the party but I still wanted to call everyone's attention to the book. Stephen asked us to be the primary internet ordering place because retail is what we do. Update: This book is sadly out of print.
