The PDC 18 Four-Speed, Drill/Hammer Drill is Festool's most versatile drill. A 4 speed gearbox blasts through wood, metal or concrete at up to 3,800 rpm, and up to 531 in-lbs of torque. The EC-TEC brushless motor sips at the 18v 4.0Ah Litium Ion battery, but delivers robust power in a light weight 4.1 lb package.
This drill has a lot of bells and whistles, but the first time we got it in our hands we were impressed with its weight, and balance. The LED light in the handle is bright and illuminates the drilling area quite well - important, as we see this drill as an installers weapon of choice. Drilling in hammer mode is noisy but relatively smooth. Our first tests drilling 1/4" holes in 100 year old concrete showed the PDC 18 to be a lighter but equally powerful alternative to our much larger corded hammer drill. If you want one drill to do it all - buy a PDC18.
The PDC 18 is available in three packages, and works with any slide in battery from Festool. As Festool expands its cordless range, which now includes saws, and lights, the packages allow you to grow your collection of tools as economically as possible.
